Alice was up to visit this weekend so she came along with us and viewed some houses we had short listed to have a look at.
On the Sunday before she went back home we decided to go along and attend another gardening workshop organised by the local council. This time it was on constructing a container wicking bed garden.
Wicking beds are self-contained garden beds with built in reservoirs that supply water from the bottom up – changing how, and how much you need to water. The water moves up by capillary action watering the roots of the plants from below. Thus reducing the amount of water wasted due to evaporation.
We re-cycled an old bath and used it as the basis of our wicking bed. It can then be disguised with some imaginative construction to blend it in with its surrounding and you would not even know it was once a bath.
